Do Not Follow Mathab,Follow Quran and Sunnha

we must follow the quraan and the sunnah because prophet saw said;

"i have left amongst you two things with which you will not go astray;the book of allaah and my sunnah" (authentic hadith in al-haakim)

at the time of prophet saw, there was only one school of thought; quraan and sunnah of prophet saw.

we can accept the teachings of these four imaams as long as their teachings do not contradict the quraan and sunnah. and indeed,they have warned us not to follow any of their teachings if it contradict the quraan or the sunnah.

imaam abu hanifah ra said;

"when i say something contradicting the Book of Allaah the Exalted or what is narrated from the messenger saw,then ignore my saying"(Al-Fulaani in "Eeqaaz Al-Himam",pg 50)

he also said;

"when a hadith is found to be saheeh,then this is my madhab"(Eeqaaz Al-Himam,pg 62 and Ibn Aabideen in Al-Haashiyah 1/63)

imaam maalik ra said;

"truly i am only a mortal; i make mistakes (sometimes) and i am correct (sometimes). therefore ,look into my opinions;all that agrees with the Book and the Sunnah, accept it; and all that does not agree with the Book and the Sunnah, ignore it"(Ibn Abdul Barr in "Jaami Bayaan Al-Ilm2/32, ibn Hazm,quoting from the former in Usool Al-Ahkaam 6/149)

imaam shafii ra said;

"the Sunnahs of the messenger of Allaah saw reach,as well as escape from, everyone of us. so whenever i voice my opinion,or formulate a principle,where something contrary to my view exists on the authority of the Messenger of Allaah saw,then the correct view is what the Messenger of Allaah saw has said,and it is my view"(related by Haakim with a continuous sanad up to shafi'i,as in Taareekh Dimashq of Ibn Asaakir 15/1/3, "I'laam Al-Mooqi'een 2/363,364 and Eeqaaz pg 100)

and Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal ra said;

"following means that a man follows what comes from the Prophet saw and his Companions; after the successors, he has a choice"(Abu Daawud in "Masaa'il of Imaam Ahmad,pg 276-277)

so, the four imaams ra were aware that they were not infallible and that they could commit mistakes.

Quran says'

O ye who believe! obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: that is best, and most suitable for final determination. (4: 59).

And whoever obeys Allâh and His Messenger, he has won a great success. (33:71)

May Allaha Guide us in the right path
